Manufacturer description #1
This lens features Canon's exclusive Rear-group internal focusing system. Only the small-diameter rear lens group moves for focusing in a rigid lens barrel. Not only is focusing with this telephoto lens unusually smooth and overall lens balance excellent, but this simpler focusing mechanism permits a slimmer, lighter design. Canon has had particular success in reducing the size and weight of this lens while also drastically reducing chromatic aberration. Even pictures taken at its close 1.5m minimum focusing distance have very good overall definition. For hand-held shooting in sports and nature photography and snapshots.
Manufacturer description #2
Handling is improved with the adoption of Canon's Rear-group focusing in this telephoto lens. Only the rear lens group moves during focusing, maintaining excellent overall balance.
The telephoto ratio of this lens is 0.81 and although its length is held to 121mm, curvature of field and spherical aberrations are sufficiently reduced. And edge definition as well as sharpness in the central portion of the picture are excellent.
Another attractive feature of this lens is that it has the closest focusing distance of 1.5 meters among the 200mm focal length lenses.
Manufacturer description #3
Unusual new features in this New Series FD Lens include Rear Group Focusing System (to facilitate compactness), reduced weight and size, improved optical formula to reduce chromatic aberrations and a closer minimum focusing distance and smaller minimum aperture for greater flexibility of operation. Mounting has been considerably improved using the new bayonet technique. Because of the exceptional balance and light weight of this new lens, it can be hand-held with great ease. It is an outstanding lens for any SLR system because of its combination of telephoto impact and easy portability.
