S.S.C. Multi-layer Super Spectra coating is applied to the surfaces of lens elements. This anti-reflection coating increases light transmission, eliminates flare and ghosting, and maintains color consistence among all lens models.

The overall length of this lens is very short considering its focal length. It is relatively compact and has superior maneuverability. Therefore, it is very handy for hand-held shooting in sports and nature photography as well as snapshots. It is also very effective for a telephoto effect in photographing scenery. This lens provides high contrast and image definition throughout the entire focusing range. Spherical and chromatic aberrations, likely to occur with fast lenses, are considerably reduced so that it delivers wonderful image quality at full aperture even in close-range photography. The 1.8m minimum subject distance is a fundamental achievement in this lens and makes it suitable for close-ups.

In spite of its 200mm focal length, its short telephoto ratio of 1:0.86 is the shortest of any telephoto lens with an f/4 lens speed. Its chromatic aberration, especially its secondary spectrum, and other aberration fluctuations, have been optically solved for obtaining high contrast and stable image delineation throughout the entire focusing range.
