CANON INTRODUCES TRIO OF NEW EF LENSES AT PMA
EF 300mm f/4L IS USM, EF 200mm f/2.8L II USM and EF 24-85mm f/3.5-4.5 USM Supplement World's Largest Selection of Autofocus SLR Lenses
NEW ORLEANS, LA., February 20, 1997-Canon U.S.A, Inc. is once again expanding its line of EF lenses for EOS cameras with the introduction of three new products: the EF 300mm f/4L IS USM, EF 200mm f/2.8L II USM and EF 24-85mm f/3.5-4.5 USM. These new lenses join 48 other EF-series lenses currently available to provide EOS owners with the worldąs largest selection of autofocus SLR lenses.
New EF 200mm f/2.8L II USM Re-Designed with Detachable Lens Hood
The EF 200mm f/2.8L II USM replaces the original EF 200mm f/2.8L USM lens which had been available since 1991. Though optically identical to the original, the newer lens is distinguished by the deep, detachable Bayonet mount lens hood. This supplied accessory offers greater protection from flare caused by stray light than the small hood built into the original lens. The EF 200mm f/2.8L II USM shares the 7-group, 9-element optical formula of the original lens, with two, ultra-low dispersion (UD) glass elements that thoroughly correct chromatic aberration to produce crisp, colorful, high-resolution photos. Autofocus is swift and silent, thanks to an advanced rear-focus optical design and Canon's original ring USM. A selector switch on the lens barrel allows the photographer to set the usable distance range from either 1.5m/4.9 ft. or 3m/9.8 ft. to infinity. This feature helps to speed-up AF performance when working with subjects at long range.
The EF 200mm f/2.8L II USM is also fully compatible with Canon's EF 1.4x and 2x extenders, which provide significantly increased magnification at a minimal increase in size and weight.
Manufacturer description #2
This is a lightweight, compact telephoto lens that was designed for mobility. Two UD lenses thoroughly eliminate secondary spectrum. The new rear focus design which reduces the overall weight of the moving lens elements and improves focusing precision also compensates for aberrations. The lens boasts excellent sharp, clear imaging performance at all focusing distances. The quick and quiet AF which uses a ring-type USM and the fine-tuned physical balance of the lens make operation a delight. It is equipped with a large separate hood which blocks out light very effectively. It is compatible with an optional detachable tripod collar, which provides a stable support and can be switched smoothly from vertical to horizontal positions and vice-versa.
Manufacturer description #3
Telephoto lens boasting high image quality and carrying ease. With two UD-glass elements and rear focusing to correct aberrations, image delineation is extremely sharp. Background blur is also natural-looking, as was simulated by Canon. The lens comes with a dedicated, detachable hood.
