Manufacturer description #1
LAS VEGAS, NV., February 22, 1996 -- Canon U.S.A., Inc. is introducing four new EF lenses at this year's PMA Trade Show and Convention, expanding the total number in the EF line to 50, the widest selection of autofocus lenses available in any 35mm SLR camera system. They include the Canon EF 17-35mm f/2.8L USM, 135mm f/2L USM, 180mm f/3.5L Macro and 400mm f/2.8L II USM. The new L-Series lenses are designed specifically for professional and advanced amateur photographers and offer an extended selection of fast, and extremely sharp focal lengths.
"Canon is committed to offering photographers the widest selection of high quality optics in the industry," said Ted Ando, director and general manager of Canon's Camera Division."Canon will continue to introduce new products and improve existing ones based on the needs and requests of our customers," Mr. Ando added.
EF 180mm f/3.5L Macro USM Adds Dimension to EF Line
The Canon EF 180mm f/3.5L Macro USM lens offers professional and amateur photographers the ability to capture life-size images with exceptional clarity and renders high-quality close-ups throughout its focusing distance range from 1x to infinity.
The lens incorporates three UD-glass elements designed to correct for residual chromatic aberrations. The lens employs a floating element during focusing which serves to by maintain stable imaging performance by greatly reducing aberration fluctuations. The result is its ability to achieve high-quality images throughout the focusing range. Silent and extremely accurate autofocus is possible through the use of Canon's exclusive ring-type Ultrasonic Motor (USM). Fast and smooth manual focusing is possible while in the AF mode through the built-in mechanical manual focus override. The lens is compatible with Canon EF 1.4x and 2x extenders.
Manufacturer description #2
This 180mm telephoto macro lens is capable of close-ups up to 1x. It is ideal for photographing insects and small animals, where a long working distance is desirable. The focusing range can easily be switched between 0.48m/1.6ft. to infinity and 1.5m/4.9ft. to infinity. Use of three UD elements effectively corrects secondary spectrum. Employing an internal floating construction ensures sharp delineation at all subject distances. Since the length of the lens does not change when focusing, there is no need to worry about the lens coming in contact with the subject. The ring-type USM delivers quiet autofocusing. Full-time manual focus is also available. Maximum magnification can be raised to either 1.4xor 2xby using Extender EF 1.4xII or 2xII
Manufacturer description #3
Another telephoto macro lens with a maximum magnification of 1x. Life-size close-ups can be taken from a farther distance without disturbing the subject (insects, etc.). The internal floating system minimizes fluctuations in aberrations caused by changes in the focusing distance. Optical performance is outstanding from 1x to infinity.
Compared to other macro lenses in the Canon EOS system
- Slowest speed (F/3.5)
- Longest closest focusing distance (0.48m)
- Heaviest weight (1090g)
- Longest length (187mm)
- Largest filter size (72mm)
