Manufacturer description #1

The 800mm f:8 Canon lens is a recent addition to the group of interchangeable accessory lenses designed for use with Canon Cameras, and other cameras of similar type. It gives an image 16 times as large as that of the standard 50mm lens. This lens is not coupled to the Range-Viewfinder built into the Canon Camera. Instead, special reflex mirror-box is provided which gives a direct unreserved image of the subject, even at the instant of photographing it. The 800mm lens is ideal for recording animal life in its natural habitat, sporting events, and other subjects at extreme distances from the photographer. Because this lens has equal resolving powers to the standard 50mm lens, any enlargements will have the life-like qualities of ordinary close-up. It is especially recommended with infra-red film for distant landscapes where precise detail is required.

A sturdy tripod is available with lens to give support and complete manoeuvability.

Manufacturer description #2

An extremely long-focus telephoto, of high color correction and complete distortion-free field. Apertures from f:8 to f:32. Focusing range from 22 meter to infinity.

Manufacturer description #3

Ideal for recording animal life in its natural habitat, sporting events, and other subjects at extreme distances from the photographer. Because this lens has resolving power equal to the standard 50mm lens, any enlargements will have the life-like qualities of ordinary close-up. Manufacturer description #4

This is Canon's longest focal length lens which gives a magnification of 16X the 50mm standard lens. A special reflex miirror box is provided which gives a direct, erect image of the subject. Here is the ideal lens for photographing sports events and animal wildlife at extreme ranges. It is especially recommended for use with infrared film.

From the editor

The lens hood for the 800/8 is of screw-in type and accomodates filter.

Canon Camera Museum gives incorrect data: weight and closest focusing distance do not correspond to those stated in the vintage Canon's booklets. Dimensions indicated on the website are also questionable. We took all the data from the booklets.
