Manufacturer description

The "ЗОРКИЙ-3" camera belongs to the category of portable small-format film cameras with a frame size of 24x36 mm. The "ЗОРКИЙ-3" camera is a perfect camera that can satisfy the highest demands of qualified amateur photographers, photo reporters and scientists.

The "ЗОРКИЙ-3" camera works with normal perforated film 35mm wide; it is loaded in the light with cassettes holding 1.6m of film. Every loading makes it possible to take 36 shots.

The high resolution of the "ЗОРКИЙ-3" camera allows you to obtain impeccable enlargements of photographs to a format of 13x18cm or larger.

The camera is designed to use special all-metal cassettes that automatically open when the camera lid is locked. It is also possible to use other types of cassettes, the main dimensions of which correspond to the cassette according to GOST.

The "ЗОРКИЙ-3" camera has a combined viewfinder and rangefinder, mechanically coupled to the lens. This device guarantees focusing accuracy. To improve the accuracy of the rangefinder, its optical system has been enlarged and diopter adjustment has been introduced.

The "ЗОРКИЙ-3" camera is equipped with a curtain shutter, which allows you to obtain instant shutter speeds from 1/1000 sec. up to 1 sec. and long exposures.

The shutter button is mounted on the top plate of the camera. If a cable release is used, it is screwed directly into the release button.

The camera has an interlocked film feed with a winding mechanism and a frame counter.

The camera is equipped with a film rewind mechanism, which makes it possible to reload the camera in the light.

The camera is equipped with a threaded lens mount into which a lens with a focal length of 5cm is screwed. Interchangeable lenses with other focal lengths are also screwed into the same mount. Focusing of lenses is achieved directly by rotating the lens barrel, while the rangefinder device works automatically regardless of the focal length of the lens.

On the top panel of the "ЗОРКИЙ-3" camera there is a shoe for a universal viewfinder and other attachments intended for the camera.

The "ЗОРКИЙ-3" camera has a removable rear cover, which facilitates the process of adjusting lenses and loading the camera.

On the bottom plate of the camera in the middle there is a socket with a 3/8-inch thread for securing the camera on a tripod and in a case.

From the factory newspaper "Soviet Patriot" No. 44 (493) dated November 5, 1951

Work on creating a more advanced Soviet narrow-film camera based on the Zorki camera began back in 1948. But only in 1951 was it marked by a major success - the Zorki-3 camera passed factory and state tests and was approved for mass production.

This camera has a number of improvements. The rangefinder and viewfinder are combined in one window, which makes shooting much easier; a diopter adjustment was introduced; the shutter speed range has been expanded from 1 second to one thousandth of a second; a light-protection device has been introduced that allows the use of high-speed lenses; a removable back cover of the camera has been introduced, which allows checking the camera with the lens, the operation of the curtain shutter and simplifies loading with film, and other improvements.

M. Ilyin, the constructor.

From the editor

The camera was produced by the Krasnogorsk Mechanical Plant (USSR) from 1951 to 1956. There is no exact data on the number of cameras produced, but according to KMZ, at least 87,569 Zorki-3 / Zorki-3M were released.

The basic design principles were based on the LEICA IIIa. The first batches had a removable bottom plate, but at some point the back became removable instead, which made loading film much easier.

The weight and dimensions are indicated for the camera body with the "Юпитер-8" lens.
