From the Photographic Applications in Science, Technology and Medicine magazine (1970)
One new noteworthy camera is the Exakta Twin TL now made in Japan for the West German Exakta company. While this is essentially an amateur single-lens reflex, it is significant for the medical and scientific photographer because it takes all the extensive range of lens accessories for these applications which used to be offered by Exakta of East Germany. To use these items, and also older Exakta lenses, the Twin TL takes a special bayonet adapter which fits over its enlarged bayonet mount but provides the same film plane / flange register as with the lenses currently produced for the Twin TL. This camera has a Copal Square focal plane shutter (1 to 1/1000 second, X synchronization to 1/125 second), TTL exposure meter but fixed prism.
From the Camera magazine (1971)
... Exakta Twin TL - a 35-mm SLR made in Japan (by Nikoh of Nagano) for the West German Exakta company. This camera has its own range of lenses in a large-size bayonet mount to take large aperture systems up to f/1.2; the standard lenses to be provided are Exaktar units (50 to 58 mm, f/1.2 to f/1.8) and Xenar or Xenon lenses of f/2.8 or f/1.9 respectively. The range of other focal lengths will include even a 45-135 mm Vario-Exakta and the usual wide-angle and long focus lenses. At the same time Exakta provides a reducing adapter to take the older Exakta lenses in their smaller bayonet mount without changing the film plane / lens mount register. The camera also has two releases, one of them a key on the camera front in the position where it links up with the spring-loaded preselector diaphragm systems of some of the Exakta lenses. Older Exakta lens with external aperture control button, used on the Twin TL to couple with the front release lever.
From the editor
A 35mm film SLR produced for Ihagee Kamerawerk A.G. (West Germany) by Cosina (Japan). It had the same bayonet mount as the Exakta real, a short-lived SLR produced in 1966-1967 by Ihagee Kamerawerk A.G. Unlike the real, the Twin TL had a built-in TTL stop-down CdS exposure meter with a match-needle system, and a fixed pentaprism.
Given the competition that existed in the early 1970s, the Twin TL failed to become a popular camera, so a M42 screw mount version, the Twin TL 42, was also released.
